This record has come together like so many others. A quick blast of creative energy followed by diligent mixing and then a long slumber as we get artwork together. The current Daredevils lineup knocked out 15 songs at Rust Belt with our guru John Smerek this winter. To those of you that have been attending shows of late, these songs have been prominently figuring in the set lists. It appears that many of you will really like this record based on the number of people that come up to the merch table asking about "that Shine A Light song" or "the one about the Husker Du t-shirt". It also doesn't hurt that this might be our best sounding record ever. Hector's tone slides into a natural place alongside the rhythm section and it just sounds very warm and natural. As John said to me via text after finishing his mixes, "Are you going to press this on vinyl?" Yes. "Good boy".
We will be making our rounds on the festival circuit over the next couple months. For the first time in ages, we will be at Heavy Rebel, playing the Main Stage on Friday night. As many of you might have heard, some scum bag(s) sawed off the Whiskey Wagon's catalytic converter, causing a bunch of damage in the process. http://nursethehate.blogspot.com/2019/06/nurse-hate-trouble-with-whiskey-wagon.html The good news is we have made the repairs and are now in a much more secure parking situation. The bad news is that it siphoned off some of our band fund to pay for record pressing, so we need to hit the shows and collect enough scratch to get this platter together. Come on out and see us play. We need to take some of your money and give it to someone else so you can hear this new record!
As of now, the release date for the record is set as a very firm "early Fall?". As there are now only four people on the planet that press LPs, and every jagoff in the world putting one out, we expect to be pretty far back in the assembly line. As always, as soon as we get it, we will let you know. Until then, come on out and see us, would you?
News
Hex Joins Daredevils
We are pleased as punch to welcome Hex Mattos into the fold as our guitar player. Hex joins us from the Bomb City Royals, where he will also continue to play. We have always been lucky in finding the right people at the right time, and things just worked out once again. Hex has all sorts of chops and bounced around the SoCal and Texas scenes before coming to NE Ohio. As John Smerek, our long time recording czar put it, "Hex kicks ass". We will find out how much because we threw him into the deep end of the pool. We have written 10 new songs and are furiously learning the hits and misses of our back catalogue. We've got some work to do. Hopefully he learned our last eight records for practice this week. If there's any songs in particular you'd like to see back in the rotation, now's a good time to ask. Sugar doesn't even know all the stuff, so it's a good time to re-learn some old ones. We have some shows booked around the region to get our sea legs and then we'll get back to business. Come on out and see what's doing. See ya soon!
Cowslingers Record New Record
January 2018 brings the semi-triumphant return of The Cowslingers with all new material on their "Big Red Rooster" release. It's the same four guys as always, Greg/Ken/Bobby/Leo doing what they do. It all came together in a very relaxed and organic way as Bobby and I wrote an album shockingly fast. We recorded it all the way back this summer but as no one was in a tremendous hurry we spent 5 months mixing it and getting the art together with Brian Willse. We are all pleasantly surprised and happy with the outpouring of response we have received for the album and the quick hit run of shows we are going to do around it. It's nice of you all to remember the band and want to hear more. We probably would have done the record anyway just for us, but it's even better news to know that enough of you care to make it worthwhile all around. Do us a favor and pick up a copy. https://thecowslingers.bandcamp.com/album/real-big-rooster We would love to make our recording costs back so we could theoretically make a new one if we wrote some good songs. Remember that music isn't free to the ones making it, and the only people making money at Spotify is Spotify. See you at the shows!
